Internship Information

""Every HECUA semester program has an internship component that is integral to the experiential learning model. Students in the three Twin Cities semester programs – City Arts, Environmental Sustainability and Metro Urban Studies Term — work three days a week, (a minimum of 200 hours) at a local nonprofit organization. The internship work ideally complements the class readings, discussions, and field experiences. Students reflect on and integrate what they learn in the classroom with what they experience at their internship sites and field visits, while exploring their own role in the broader Twin Cities community. The internship is one of four credit-bearing components of the semester programs. Students are graded based on their participation at their internship, their reflection and analysis about their internship in class, and in their writing and creative praxis assignments.

Before the start of a semester program, students meet with the Manager of Internships to discuss their interests and the internships available. Students with special interests are encouraged to contact the Manager of Internships a month to two months before the start of the semester.

HECUA is in contact with over 350 internship placement opportunities that are updated each semester according to the available projects at local nonprofit organizations and through outreach to new organizations. Below is a brief sketch of some past internship placements for the MUST, City Arts, and Environmental Sustainability programs along with a list of additional placements. Keep in mind that this is only a partial list. We have many more internship possibilities to consider, and we develop new ones each semester.
